The Heat Pump – How does it work?
Simply put, a heat pump is a device that uses a small amount of energy to move heat from one location to another. Not too difficult, right? Heat pumps are typically used to pull heat out of the air or ground to heat a home or office building, but they can be reversed to cool a building. In a way, if you know how an air conditioner works, then you already know a lot about how a heat pump works. This is because heat pumps and air conditioners operate in a very similar way.
From March onwards all heat pump suppliers must have passed the 2.8 COP efficiency performance test that is conducted by the SABS. To date very few companies have passed this test but the Green Geysers Renu range of domestic heat pumps have done so.
This means that not only are we supplying you with an excellent quality unit but you can be assured it delivers the most effective performance and optimal electricity savings. The installation is done in accordance with the latest SANS 1352 standard to ensure optimal efficiency.
As an example we use the Armorflex insulation and only use SABS approved fittings. The average installation cost is R 13 000 for a 200 litre system and R 11 700 for a 150 litre geyser. The attached savings shows how the system literally pays for itself in an average of 18 months. The Heat pump is able to deliver strong savings for you if you connect it to your geyser and allow it to generate the hot water needed for general use in the home.
A heat pump offers you a way to use electricity to heat water efficiently. Where a geyser uses three units of electrical energy to produce three units of heat energy, a heat pump converts just one unit of electrical energy into three units of heat energy.

ESKOM Rebate on the Heat Pump
If you are an individual home owner, game lodge, bed and breakfast operator, a metro, buying in bulk, or a corporate organisation, you can take advantage of Eskom’s heat pump rebate programme.
Rebates only apply when you are retrofitting or replacing existing electrical element geysers. Customers who already have an electrical element geyser with a capacity of between 100 litres and 500 liters are eligible to purchase a rebated heat pump.
